Sitaina is a mountain village in the prefecture of Arcadia, built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Parnon at an altitude of 700 m, near the highest peak of the Grand Tourla (1934 m).
The village is 30 km from Astros.
Saitana is a Tsakonohori in which, along with the nearby areas of Prastο and Kastanitsa, the Tsakonian dialect of the oldest still speaks.
The name “Sitana” is Slavic and means swamp.
Ιn the following years, he refers to various documents of the Turkish occupation and the Venetian occupation.
During the pre-revolutionary years, the famous thief and knight of Captain Zacharias, Dimitrios Kaliontzis, was born in Sithena.
The contribution of the village was also significant during the Revolution of 1821, as 150 Sikhs joined the various troops, with great success.
In 1826 Ibrahim Pasha completely destroyed the village, as did all the other villages of Kynοuria.
According to tradition, the inhabitants of the village took refuge in the cave of Zangolis.
The village is full of fir trees and various trees, and, like the other Tsakoochoria, has many mansions – towers, samples of Tsakonian architecture.
Sitenas has two churches: the Taxiarches and Saint John the Theologian.
Near the top of Parnon, there is the chapel of Prophet Elias.
