Through the family’s manuscripts, we can see that Hatzipanayiotis Mansion hosted some great personalities. One of them was King Otto when he visited “Tsakonia” in 1844.

The manor house is distinguished for its authentic architectural features that take us back on a journey deep in the past when houses in North Peloponnese were constructed with stone.
The history of the building
The story of the Mansion dates back to many centuries ago. The building is named after the outstanding ship-owner Kostas Hatzipanayiotis (Politis), a great personality of navigation before the Greek revolution. The Hatzipanayiotis family contributed much to the Fight for Liberation in 1821, while a member of the family, K.N. Hatzipanayiotis served as a Member of the Parliament for Kynouria and as Mayor of Limneos area, the capital city of which was Leonidio.
Following the “wisdom” of local architecture
Hatzipanayiotis’ Mansion was renovated by craftsmen with affection, enthusiasm, and respect. Standing like a fortress in the center of Leonidio, it is surrounded by high stone walls that enclose its authenticity inside. From the entrance, a magnificent wooden door with a stone dome, we can see the strictly rectangular shape of the mansion and the traditional wooden roof, which was reconstructed with Byzantine-style tiles. The pebble-paved yard is equally impressive with a garden full of beautiful flowers such as geranium, honeysuckles, pansies, jasmines, and frangipanis.
The ground floor and the first floor have independent entrances but they communicate externally with a stone staircase which is based on domes and arches of great magnificence. The beautiful “chagiatia” (balconies), the elaborate chimneys, the lintels of the windows with the stone arcs and the stone-built arches are unique characteristics of the impressive local architecture.
The seamlessly constructed inner spaces, the painted ceiling, and the wonderful, spiral, wooden staircases-which are reminiscent more of jewelry than of architectural structures- create an intimate atmosphere and travel visitors back in a romantic period of time.
